Abelardo Jr. “Jun” Cortez, a licensed professional teacher, currently tries to change the world at Holy Family Academy in Angeles, Pampanga. He is also a core lecturer in the Gurong Pinoy International Review for the Licensure Examination of Professional Teachers.He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the program Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Social Studies at Holy Angel University. He was also awarded as the Most Outstanding Teacher Education Student, Leader, and Intern by the HAU School of Education.While maintaining a high standing for his academic scholarship, Jun was also active in different forms of co-curricular and extracurricular activities. During his senior year in college, he served as the Chairperson of the HAU School of Education Student Council. As the head of the Council, he also served as the Convener of the recently concluded Regional Convention of Teacher Education Students in Central Luzon in its inaugural year. Prior to this, Cortez once served as an Editor in Chief of The Reflection, the official student publication of HAU-SEd, and a President of the university’s Social Studies Circle.
Cortez was also a recipient of various awards not only for his academic achievement but also because of his leadership and service to the community. In 2021, he was recognized as the Angelite of the Year XIV (Student Category) by the highest and most prestigious award-giving body in the Holy Angel University that recognizes the ‘holistic distinction of the students in terms of service, community awareness, socio-civic involvement, leadership, integrity, discipline, scholastic greatness, and Angelistic well-being’.
Last October 2022, he was also recognized as one of the Top 10 Awardees of the Huwarang Mag-aaral ng Gitnang Luzon, an award given by The Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines Region III, to Filipino students who 'endeavor to serve their country and people and those whose service to the school, community, and nation spring from a genuine desire and passion to make a difference in the lives of many with every day great examples of heroism. Cortez’s winning advocacies are the Effective Integration of Technology into Filipino Classrooms and the Upgrading of Teacher Quality, especially in Technology.He was also one of the delegates of the 23rd national Ayala Young Leaders Congress, the IMPACT Youth Fellowship Program, and the Heroes Hub Fellowship by Dakila. He also once served as an intern to the Office of Senator Francis Pangilinan.In spite of all these, Jun wants to identify himself simply as a loving family member, a friend to many, a kuya to his mentees, and a dedicated Filipino teacher who wants to upgrade the quality of education in this country.
